To ensure your safety, Currypowder only employs competent local guides who are experienced in mountain emergency procedures. There is also a small hospital in Gulmarg.

Although there is no official ski-patrol, ‘Mission Gulmarg’ is the international ski patrol group commissioned by the Jammu & Kashmir state government to oversee avalanche patrols on the mountain. Their team of experts conduct regular testing of the area and ensure you stay clear of any avalanche-prone zones.


Political Unrest Political unrest between India and Pakistan over Kashmir has been in existence for over half a century. And although times were turbulent during the 1980’s and 1990’s, the unrest has since subsided due to better relations between the two countries. Most government foreign affairs departments, including Australia’s, have issued travel warnings to the region. But due to Gulmarg’s isolated proximity and the Indian Army’s High Altitude school nearby, Currypowder’s experience along with that of other foreign travellers has proven Gulmarg to be totally safe and free of any unrest.
